analogy of being

analogy of being
This expression (from the Latin analogia entis, meaning "analogy of being)," refers to the common factors of existing beings, while acknowledging their differences. The analogy of being is a theological position that contrasts with both those who maintain that everything is one and the same (univocity of being) and those who maintain that everything is completely different (diversity of being). Theologians also point out that only God exists in the absolute sense of the term"being," while human beings participate in existence.
